Effects of Stevia Chlorogenic Acid and Genistein on Prouduction Performance,Egg Quality,Follicle Development and Antioxidant Properties of Laying Hens in Late Laying Period
The study aimed to investigate the effects of Stevia chlorogenic acid and genistein on production performance, egg quality, follicle development and antioxidant performance of Hy-Line Brown layers in late laying period.A total of 360 healthy 70-week-age Hy-Line Brown layers with similar body weight were selected and randomly assigned to four groups with no significant differences in production performance(P>0.05).Each group included six replicates, with 15 chickens per replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, while the treatment groups received the basal diet supplemented with 120 mg/kg chlorogenic acid(chlorogenic acid group),120 mg/kg genistein(genistein group)and 120 mg/kg chlorogenic acid combined with 120 mg/kg genistein(chlorogenic acid+genistein group). The trial lasted for 14 weeks, comprising a 2-week pre-feeding period and a 12-week experimental period. The results showed that the addition of chlorogenic acid, genistein or their combination had no significant impact on production performance of laying hens(P>0.05).However,compared with the control group, both chlorogenic acid and genistein, either individually or in combination, significantly improved eggshell strength and thickness of laying hens(P<0.05),with chlorogenic acid and genistein alone significantly increasing the eggshell ratio of laying hens(P<0.05).Additionally,chlorogenic acid, either alone or combined with genistein, significantly reduced the eggshell color L* value while increasing the a* value of laying hens(P<0.05),the supplementation of which had no significant effect on ovarian index, follicle weight,or number of laying hens(P>0.05).Furthermore,chlorogenic acid, either alone or in combination with genistein, significantly increased hepatic superoxide dismutase content of laying hens(P<0.05),while chlorogenic acid alone significantly enhanced the total antioxidant capacity of the ovaries of laying hens(P<0.05).In conclusion, although chlorogenic acid and genistein supplementation did not significantly improve the production performance of Hy-Line Brown layers in late laying period, their inclusion in the diet could significantly enhance eggshell quality and improve the antioxidant function of the liver and ovaries.
