Nutritional Properties of Mulberry Leaves and Their Application in Poultry Production
Mulberry leaves are rich in high-quality plant protein,with high protein content,balanced amino acid ratio,and rich in vitamins and minerals.Based on a dry matter basis,dried mulberry leaves had 11.90%to 34.53%crude protein,1.46%to 10%crude fat,8%to 29.28%crude fiber,6.32%to 17.24%crude ash,0.93%to 4.33%calcium,and 0.16%to 0.85%phosphorus.In addition,mulberry leaves contain alkaloids,flavonoids,polysaccharides and polyphenols and other biologically active substances,with anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,anticancer,hypoglycemic,immune enhancement,and prevention of obesity and other functions.As a feed supplement,mulberry leaves have a positive impact on poultry growth performance,intestinal health,immune performance and product quality.This paper summarized the nutritional composition,biological functions and research progress of mulberry leaves in poultry production,aiming to provide reference for the popularization and application of mulberry leaves powder in poultry feed.
