Exploration on Ward Teaching Combined With TBL Teaching Method in Ophthalmology Teaching
Objective To clinical professional students,ophthalmology is a compulsory subject characterized by its high specialization,limited class hours,and considerable teaching difficulty.Improving teaching methods and enhancing teaching efficiency in ophthalmology education has become a significant focus of research in the field.Methods From November 2021 to May 2022,a total of 79 undergraduate students from Sun Yat-sen University underwent ophthalmology clerkship at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University,were selected as the study subjects.They were randomly divided into a control group(39 students)and an experimental group(40 students).The control group,traditional teaching methods were employed,while the study group utilized a teaching approach primarily centered around bedside teaching supplemented by team-based learning(TBL)After the completion of the teaching sessions,the teaching effectiveness was evaluated through theoretical and skill examinations,and the satisfaction of students with the teaching model was assessed using a questionnaire survey.Results The study group demonstrated significantly higher case analysis scores[(89.04±4.03)points]compared to the control group[(80.29±4.51)points],with a statistically significant difference(P<0.001).Although there was a slight improvement in theoretical scores for the study group,the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Evaluation of teaching satisfaction showed that participants in the study group exhibited higher satisfaction levels in overall understanding of ophthalmic diseases,mastery of theoretical knowledge,enhancement of clinical reasoning abilities,broadening of knowledge base,strengthening of horizontal and vertical cognitive connections,increased interest in ophthalmology,improvement of learning efficiency,enhanced communication skills,and promotion of teamwork spirit,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion The teaching model of ward-based demonstration combined with TBL is a positive exploration in the reform of clinical teaching methods in ophthalmology.It significantly improves the recognition and diagnostic abilities of clinical ophthalmic diseases,enhances the mastery of ophthalmology among clerkship students.
