Research on the Current Status of Research Ability and Training Needs of Master's Orthopedic Students
Objective To investigate the status and requirement of the research ability of graduate orthopaedic medical students,and consequently formulate strategies to develop research ability for certain students.Methods Questionnaires were utilized to analyze the ability and requirements for study of 69 graduate students in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine during May to July in 2023.The research abilities included six aspects involving abilities to raise the question,paper reading,propose methods,perform study,software applying,and manuscript writing.Training requirements included five aspects involving requirements for questioning,study design,paper reading,statistics,and paper drafting.Objectives were divided into scientific course students and professional course students,or the first,second,and third year students.The differences among the abilities and training requirements were analyzed.Results The 69 students reported good ability of research article reviewing(3.43±1.11)points,while it was just fair in raising scientific questions(2.90±1.18)points;students with professional degrees had limited ability in question raising,literature reading,project designing,manuscript preparation when compared with student with scientific degrees and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);high-degree students had better research ability than low-degree students and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Students had significantly strong requirements in manuscript preparation(66.67%)and question raising(62.32%).Conclusion The ability for question raising should be emphasized during the education of graduate orthopaedic medical students,especially for those with professional degrees.Courses for manuscript writing and personalized teaching are also suggested.
