Exploration on Teaching Methods for Pediatric Surgery Internship
Clinical internship is an important phase for medical students to transition from their student roles to becoming clinical doctors.Pediatric surgery, due to its unique range of diseases and patient population, presents several challenges when it comes to clinical teaching during internships.Enhancing interns'objective perception of common pediatric surgical disease symptoms and signs within a short time frame is crucial to improving the quality of pediatric surgery internships and is a significant concern in specialized children's hospitals. This article introduces how Xiamen Children's Hospital's surgery department has improved the quality of pediatric surgery internship education by building a high-quality teaching team, utilizing simulation teaching, and implementing a flipped classroom approach.Firstly,by establishing strict criteria for selecting teaching instructors, providing regular training for faculty, and conducting multidimensional assessments,a highly qualified team of teaching instructors is developed.Secondly, diversified teaching methods encompass modular training,simulation-based teaching, and targeted surgical skills training, all aimed at enhancing interns'practical skills. Finally, the flipped classroom approach is employed to facilitate learning of fundamental pediatric surgical diseases and treatment principles, promoting interns'active and self-directed learning capabilities. These strategies and experiences hold the potential to enhance the quality of pediatric surgery internship education, providing support for the training of more highly skilled pediatric surgeons.
