Application of Isolated Hallux Valgus Animal Model in Orthopedic Teaching
Objective To study the application effect of pig hallux valgus animal model in orthopedic teaching.Methods A total of 22 students in the Yangquan First People's Hospital are participated in the study from March to September 2021.They were randomly assigned to two groups:the traditional teaching group(n=11)and the isolated animal model teaching group(n=11).All students were undergoing orthopedic surgery courses for the first time and received instruction from the same teachers.All students took part of orthopedic surgery courses for the first time and were taught by the same teachers.The traditional teaching group was instructed with slides or common bone models,with a total teaching time of 2 class hours,each lasting 50 min.The isolated animal model teaching group,in addition to traditional teaching methods,incorporated pig isolated animal models.Through the teachers'explanations of instrument usage and isolated animal models,students gained a preliminary understanding of the bone structure and surrounding soft tissues of hallux valgus.They were then guided to perform operations on the models to deepen their comprehension of the disease and enhance their practical skills.The teaching time for this group was also 2 class hours,with each class lasting 50 min.Then the test scores and teaching satisfaction after the end of class was compared between two groups.Results Post-class,test scores and teaching satisfaction levels were recorded.The traditional teaching group scored an average of(81.25±2.58)points,with a teaching satisfaction rating of(42.65±3.15)points.The isolated animal model teaching group scored higher at(87.60±3.52)points for test scores and(47.25±2.21)points for teaching satisfaction.The isolated animal model teaching group outperformed the traditional teaching group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of a pig isolated animal model allows regular training students to visually and comprehensively grasp the anatomical structure and operative principles of hallux valgus.This approach effectively enhances students'performance,increases teaching satisfaction,and ultimately elevates teaching quality.
