Analysis of Video Display Terminal Use and Eye Symptoms of Medical Students
Objective To explore the relationship between the use of visual display terminals(VDTs)by college students and eye symptoms.Method In January 2022,a random cluster sampling survey was conducted on 787 college students of Tongji University to investigate the eye symptoms related to VDTs.The data were analyzed using chi-square test test and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results The most common eye symptoms related to VDT were dryness and discomfort;Using VDT for an average of 6 hours per day can increase discomfort such as eye pain, decreased vision,or blurred vision;Compared to undergraduate students, the average daily use of VDT for≥6 hours among graduate students increased[OR=2.102,95%CI(1.560,2.831),P<0.05],but the proportion of using mobile phones as the most commonly used VDT and the occurrence of eye pain decreased[OR=0.628,95%CI(0.455,0.866),P<0.05].The evaluation level of mobile screen is correlated with dry eye symptoms[OR=1.256,95%CI(1.108,1.424),P<0.05].Conclusion The most common eye symptom related to VDT among college students in this university is dryness and discomfort;Adjusting usage distance, reducing usage time, and improving screen level can reduce the occurrence of VDT syndrome.
