A Corpus-Based Study on English Translation of Metro Station Names:A Case Study of Metro Line 1 in Shanghai,Nanjing,Suzhou,Wuxi,Changzhou and Xuzhou
This paper addresses the crucial role of translating metro station names in urban public language services,emphasizing the lack of a standardized approach in China.The focus is specifically on the Chinese-to-English translation of metro station names along Line 1 in Shanghai,Nanjing,Suzhou,Wuxi,Changzhou and Xuzhou.By employing a combined qualitative and quantitative research methodology and creating a specialized corpus,this study aims to analyze the translation strategies used for these metro station names.The ultimate ob-jective is to propose optimal solutions for the translation of metro station names in China.The research aims to contribute to the establishment of a unified and mandatory standard for translating metro station names,thus ad-dressing the controversies surrounding current practices in different regions.
