中国古代科技史文献引文英译方法初探——以《中国科学技术史(英文)》(CAHST)为例

摘要
中国古代科技史文献是科技史家从事相关研究的起点与依据.科技史论文中引用的文献具有涉及学科范围广、专门术语多、语言习惯与现代汉语差异大、隐含的文化背景较复杂等特征.如何在学术论文的语境中做好科技史文献引文的翻译,兼顾表意准确与易于理解,对译者来说是一大挑战.作者基于编辑、翻译英文论文的实例,提出重点把握术语、准确理解原文、坚持语境意识、适时与作者沟通,是中国古代科技史文献英译中值得尝试的方法.
Abstract
Ancient Chinese literature of history of science and technology(S&T)is the starting point and basis for historians of S&T to engage in relevant research.Literature cited in research papers on the history of S&T is characterized by a wide range of disciplines involved,many specialized terms,a large difference between the language habits and that of modem Chinese,and a complex implied cultural background.It is a challenge for translators to produce a translation of S&T historical literature which expresses accurately and is easy to under-stand in the context of research papers.Based on actual examples of editing and translating English research pa-pers,the author of this paper proposes that emphasizing the translation of terminology,understanding the origi-nal text precisely,maintaining contextual awareness,and communicating with the author when needed are meth-ods worth trying in the translation of historical materials of S&T in ancient China.
