中国传统民居建筑术语英译探析——基于皮尔斯符号像似视角
English Translation of Chinese Traditional Residential Architecture Terminology-A Study from Pierce's Semiotic Iconicity Perspective

摘要
具有时空、文化特征的传统民居建筑是中国建筑术语英译的重点和难点.本文依托皮尔斯符号像似理论,梳理中国传统民居建筑术语的英译现状及问题,即符号与对象间像似维度缺乏、单一、错乱等.由此提出相应的翻译策略,如异化为先、归化为主;文不足述、以图补之;规范系统、统一解释,以期提高中国建筑术语的英译质量.
Abstract
As an essential part of Chinese architecture,traditional Chinese residential architecture terms with its spatiotemporal and cultural characteristics are difficult to translate.Based on Pierce's theory of semiotics,this article analyzes the current problems existing in English translation of Chinese architectural terms,such as the lack of consistency in dimension between symbols and objects,the lack of necessary dimensions in translated texts as well as dimension conflicts in that regard.Three coping translation strategies,such as foreignization cou-pled with domestication,texts with supplementary diagrams,and standardization and unification of terminology,are proposed to improve the translation quality of Chinese architecture terms.
