The Comprehension and Rendering of Humorous Elements in A Short History of Nearly Everything
An excellent popular science work often has high literary quality and contain humorous language,which requires the reader to have some high-level cognitive skills in order to fully appreciate it.Bill Bryson's famous popular science work,A Short History of Nearly Everything,is famous for its humorous language.Through the analysis of the humorous cases in this book,this paper points out that in order to successfully trans-late popular science works like this one,the translator needs to have extensive knowledge,understand popular culture and keep himself/herself up-to-date with fashionable humorous expressions,so as to accurately and ap-propriately render the humorous elements of the source text.
