A Study on the High-Level Convergence Effect of Knowledge Innovation in Comprehensive National Science Centers
As a pivotal part of the national innovation system and a significant entity in strategic science and technology advancement, the Comprehensive National Scientific Center(referred to as the scientific center)plays diverse roles in China's innovation progres-sion.This study aims to explore the influence of scientific center establishment on regional knowledge production and innovation conver-gence.Using intercity panel data from China, the research employs difference-in-differences estimation to assess the effects of the scien-tific center.Key findings show as follows.①For the basic effect, the establishment of scientific centers enhances both the quantity and quality of urban knowledge innovation, driven by increased fiscal investment and scientific workforce growth.High-level platforms also positively moderate this impact.②Concerning network effect, scientific center establishment bolsters direct city linkages in research col-laboration networks, strengthening their central role and reducing structural holes.③On the convergence effect level, while scientific centers foster knowledge diffusion through geographic proximity and research partnerships, their role in promoting regional knowledge convergence needs further enhancement.
