Methodological characteristics and improvement strategies of case studies in academic journals
[Purposes]This paper aims to analyze the main characteristic of application and future improvement strategies of case analysis method in academic journal research.[Methods]Chinese Journal of Scientific and Technical Periodicals was used as the data source,and case analysis papers published from 2015 to 2022 were collected and statistically described from five dimensions:research orientation,type of cases,number of cases,data sources,and analysis style.[Findings]Among the existing journal case studies,descriptive research is far more than explanatory research,and the case types are diverse,but the distribution of types is not balanced enough.Single case studies account for a larger proportion,and observation data and textual data are used more than interview data.Quantitative and qualitative analysis styles are relatively balanced.[Conclusions]Future journal case studies should emphasize theoretical construction and strengthen explanatory research,emphasize interview data and actively broaden data acquisition channels,and emphasize experimental methods and improve the level of analysis.
