Development status of excellent agricultural journals in China
[Purposes]This paper aims to analyze the development trends of agricultural journals in China by summarizing the current development status of excellent agricultural journals and High Starting Point New Journals in agriculture and provide a basis for the high-quality development of agricultural journals in China.[Methods]This study included 19 agricultural journals of 2019 Excellence Action Plan for China's STM Journals(hereafter referred to as Excellence Action Plan)and High Starting Point New Journals in agriculture of Excellence Action Plan from 2019 to 2023.The development trends of agricultural journals were studied based on the selected journals from four aspects:the distribution of agricultural disciplines,the domestic influence,the international influence,and characteristics of High Starting Point New Journals in agriculture.Furthermore,the enlightenments and prospects for the high-quality development of agricultural journals in China were summarized.[Findings]Compared with the agricultural journals supervised by China Association for Science and Technology,Chinese Academy of Sciences,and Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs,those sponsored by agricultural universities under the supervision of Ministry of Education had low impacts.There was a phenomenon of strong disciplines but weak journals.The number of agricultural journals selected into Excellence Action Plan and High Starting Point New Journals in agriculture was small.However,in recent years,agricultural universities in China have comprehensively laid out journal development in their advantageous disciplines,and the number of High Starting Point New Journals is on the rise.At the same time,attention has been paid to the gaps of interdisciplinary research,and a group of new journals with high impacts are emerging,promoting the coordinated development of agricultural journals and disciplines.[Conclusions]Despite the number of journals selected for Excellence Action Plan is relatively small,China has predominant agricultural disciplines,which provides momentum for the development of agricultural journals.Priority should be put on the development of excellent agricultural journals,which will drive the overall development of general agricultural journals in China.
