Optimization of submission and peer-review systems from user experience and demands
[Purposes]We survey the authors,editors,reviewers,and editorial board members to investigate their experience and feedback in using the submission and peer-review systems of Chinese and English journals in China,aiming to lay a foundation for the system optimization.[Methods]Interviews and questionnaire survey were employed in this study.The questionnaires concerned user experience,optimization willingness,and common problems in the use of the systems.Chi-square test was then carried out to measure whether sample selection was representative or not.[Findings]A total of 705 valid questionnaires were received.All the four roles showed poor user experience of the systems,and more than 70%of the participants pointed out that the submission and peer-review systems of Chinese and English journals in China needed to be optimized.The interactive experience of people and interfaces,people and contents,and people and people was poor,which affected the users'recognition about the journals.The focus of the user experience of the four roles varied and shared similarities.[Conclusions]The submission and peer-review systems of Chinese and English journals in China remain to be optimized.Journals shall pay special attention to user experience and demands and improve the submission and peer-review systems,which will help to improve the journal brand and build world-class journals.
