Disciplinary structure characteristics of liberal arts journals sponsored by Chinese universities based on paper-level subject classification
[Purposes]This paper aims to analyze the disciplinary distribution of the liberal arts journals sponsored by universities based on the Chinese library classification number of individual papers and carry out journal cluster analysis accordingly,to comprehensively understand the disciplinary structure of liberal arts journals sponsored by Chinese universities,and to provide references for the high-quality development of academic journals.[Methods]Taking 10356 papers published in 2022 from 109 liberal arts journals sponsored by universities as the research object,we obtained their Chinese library classification number from CNKI and studied the disciplinary structure and disciplinary clusters of the liberal arts journals through statistical analysis,calculation of disciplinary structure characteristic indexes,construction and clustering of disciplinary structure similarity matrix,etc.[Findings]The overall publication of liberal arts journals in universities is mainly focused on social sciences such as economics,political science,and law,which are covered in most journals and with even distribution.Interdisciplinary papers account for nearly 30%,with mainly the integration of economics,political science,and history with other disciplines.Journals from comprehensive and normal universities cover a wide range of disciplines,with even discipline distribution and high diversity.Journals from agricultural and forestry universities exhibit narrow disciplinary coverage,uneven distribution,and low diversity.Journals from science and engineering universities demonstrate significant heterogeneity in disciplinary diversity.The 109 journals sponsored by universities can be divided into four major categories with distinctive disciplinary features.[Conclusions]The disciplinary structure characteristics of journals from different types of universities are quite different,which reflect the different orientation and advantages of journals of different universities.According to the disciplinary focus of journals,carrying out a journal classification evaluation based on the paper-level subject classification should be considered.
