Status and analysis of English journals of humanities and social sciences in China from 2017 to 2022
[Purposes]The study investigates the basic situation of English journals of humanities and social sciences in China(excluding Hong Kong,Macao, and Taiwan;abbreviated as CEJHSS),summarizes and clarifies the development status and challenges faced by CEJHSS,and attempts to provide thoughts and suggestions for the high-quality development of CEJHSS.[Methods]Through the statistical analysis,148 CEJHSS were investigated and analyzed combined with literature research, data analysis, and comparison.[Findings]The number of CEJHSS has continued to grow, and the number included in SSCI has also increased significantly.Quarterly publication remains dominant among CEJHSS,with sponsoring units primarily being universities and research institutions, concentrated in Beijing and Shanghai.Nearly 70%of journals go global by leveraging other platforms. At the same time,CEJHSS still face issues such as a relatively small total number, with nearly two-thirds of journals having only ISSN numbers, uneven distribution across disciplines, and relatively weak policy support.[Conclusions]To build high-quality CEJHSS,it is imperative to establish long-term and stable support policies, strengthen supervision and guidance, pay attention to talent cultivation, formulate a scientific evaluation system, prioritize content quality, and strengthen publishing and dissemination platform construction.
