A Global Distribution Analysis of Highly Cited Researchers in the Field of Natural Science
The article aims to reveal the results of an international comparative analysis between highly cited natural science researchers in mainland China and other major countries to address the need to improve talent measures and policy making.Based on the big data of the InCites database of Clarivate, through bibliometrics analysis, the article quantitatively studied the distribution and development trend of global highly cited researchers from five elements,i.e.research area distribution, active phase, regional distribution, time distribution, researchers'levels. The findings showed that although highly cited researchers were widely distributed, the distribution was largely uneven, mainly in the US,China,Britain, and other developed countries.Regarding the development trend, the advantage of the highly cited researchers from the US was relatively decreasing, while China's advantage was significantly increasing. The performance of highly cited researchers from China improved significantly, and the proportion of the highly cited researchers in certain subjects outnumbered the US.However, the majority of the subjects were still weak.
