In developed countries such as the United States,Canada,Germany,Japan,and New Zealand,non-governmental S&T awards for youth are flourishing with government counterparts as benchmarks.The number of awards and their value are increasing significantly.From this point of view,providing more research funding for young science and technology talents by means of awards and grants is now their significant strategy in terms of enhancing S&T strength and running for the lead internationally.Based on systematic analysis of the development characteristics of overseas S&T awards for youth,with review of situation and problems in China,this paper gives some insights such as the establishment of national-level S&T awards for youth,promoting the internationalization of China Youth Science and Technology Award,optimizing the structure of non-governmental S&T award,as well as emphasis on subject characteristics and selection by discipline category.
