The Introduction and Localization of Modern Canalization Technology in China:The Case of the Qijiang Waterway Canalization Project
In the first half of the twentieth century, local Chinese hydraulic engineers began to introduce modern canalization techniques from the West, and localized them through limited engineering practice, laying an important foundation for the development of later Chinese navigational canals. This paper focuses on the Qijiang Waterway canalization project overseen by the Huai River Commission during the War against Japanese Aggression, identifying the sources of canalization technology introduced and the context of its application, exploring why the direction of technology introduction changed at different stages.
