The Origin and Value of Codices of the Gengxin Nonghua
Xi Cheng's Gengxin nong hua is a farming book that records the agricultural production in Suzhou in the middle and late Qing Dynasty.There are four codices of this book,and their content and form were constantly supplemented and revised over time,showing great differences.It is necessary to focus on the format,content and collection of different codices of Gengxin Nonghua,sorting out the chronological order of the four codices from the foreword,structural changes,inscriptions and postscripts.The paper then explores the origin of the collection of the book,and analyzes the changes of Xi Cheng's social thought.Then,based on the similarities and differences of the text,the paper further examines the literary value and characteristics of the book,as well as the evolution of Xi Cheng's agronomic theory.In this way it comprehensively reveals the conditions of the codices and textual value of Gengxin Nonghua.
