The Recovery of the Lunar Theories during the Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Phenomenon of the Zero Anaphoric Constituent in the Contexts of the Ancient Chinese Calendars
When correcting the text of algorithms in the traditional Chinese calendars, previous researchers only paid attention to whether the original text matched with the construction principle of algorithms. However, they rarely noticed the fact that ancient Chinese calendar makers often used a way of expression of zero anaphoric constituent when compiling calendars for the purpose of succinct in style. In this paper,we take the algorithms of lunar correction terms and lunar polar-latitude in the calendar system of the Sui and Tang dynasties for examples to restore the construction principle of these two algorithms designed by calendar makers, through the research method of recovery. Then we point out that the original text records are right, which don't need to be revised and amended. Therefore, the problems existing in the previous collation were corrected. Our study shows that when collating the texts in the ancient Chinese calendars,we should not only make rigorous demonstration, but also pay enough attention to the expression habits of the ancients. It is necessary to follow the original text as much as possible and not to collate it easily.
