The General Certificate of Secondary Education(GCSE)examination is an important part of secondary education in the UK,used to evaluate school work and students'academic achievements and lay the foundation for students'further education and career development.Chinese language is one of the important subjects within the GCSE foreign language category,assessing students'four basic skills of listening,speaking,reading,and writing in Chinese.Although the GCSE Chinese subject examination syllabus specifies the content of the examination,the absence of a unified teaching syllabus allows for considerable flexibility in the teaching of GCSE Chinese.The relationship between GCSE Chinese examinations and teaching practices reflects key features such as consistency,stratification and contradiction.Studying the integration of examinations and teaching is significant for understanding the trends in international Chinese education abroad and promoting the development of international Chinese education.Furthermore,this analysis provides valuable insights for the reform of language examination and assessment in China.
