Antibiotic resistance is an important public health problem.Due to the continuous evolution and spread of bacterial resistance,especially the emergence of"superbugs,"there has been an increase in the incidence rate and mortality.The treatment of infectious diseases has become more challenging.Therefore,the discovery of new antibiotics plays a crucial role.Since the post-antibiotic era,a large number of new technologies and methods have emerged,which provide new directions for antibiotic research.This article summarized the progress of new antibiotic screening and alternative methods,including natural product screening,chemical or synthetic methods,omics technologies,artificial intelligence,drug reuse and combination,alternative methods such as monoclonal antibodies and bacteriophages.The screening of new antibiotics is of great significance in dealing with multidrug-resistant bacteria,treating emerging diseases,and improving treatment efficacy.Drug reuse and combination,as well as alternative methods,could reduce the time and cost of drug discovery,bringing more innovation and progress to the medical field.
