A dataset of specific leaf area observations in the Pan-Central Asian Arid Zone
The climate in the Pan-Central Asian Arid Zone is intricate and subject to variability, with vegetation showing heightened ecological sensitivity.Specific leaf area(SLA)is a key leaf functional trait, indicating the ability of plants to acquire resources and adapt to the environment, and it has been widely used in studies of vegetation responses to environmental changes.Drawing from observations documented in existing literature published during 2000-2023,we have compiled a dataset of specific leaf area in the Pan-Central Asian Arid Zone. The dataset contained 835 entries of specific leaf area for 362 species, covering seven plant functional types including deciduous broadleaved tree, deciduous needleleaf tree, evergreen broadleaf tree, evergreen needleleaf tree, deciduous broadleaf shrub, evergreen broadleaf shrub and grass. In addition, supporting information such as latitude, longitude, elevation, and geographic area of the sampling site have also been included in the dataset. The establishment and sharing of this dataset can help further study the response and adaptation of plants to climate change in arid zones, understand survival strategies of plants in resource-limited environment, and provide reliable data support for the optimization of ecosystem models.
