保罗·德曼对《美学》的考察展示了黑格尔的美学理论在当代语言论转向的思想背景下可能产生的新意,并借此揭示了其潜在的积极政治内涵.通过考察黑格尔对"象征"一词的含混使用,德曼指出了在其美学中存在一种有理据的象征与任意的符号彼此纠缠的反讽情况.通过追踪这种纠缠,德曼指出,在黑格尔理论的深层结构中存在着一道发生在转义与述行这两种语言因素之间的严重断裂.这道断裂不仅使黑格尔实际上并没有成功把感性现象与理念精神以至于世俗与神圣、人与神辩证地沟通起来,而且使他原本从该沟通中引申出的立足于神正义论的保守政治观翻转为对之的革命性的政治批判.
Abstract
Paul de Man's analysis of Aesthetics shows the new meaning that Hegel's aesthetic theory may have in the contemporary intellectual context of the linguistic turn and,in doing so,uncovers its positive political potentiality.By exploring the ambiguity in Hegel's use of the term"symbol",Paul de Man reveals an irony in Hegel's aesthetics between symbol and sign,and the motivated and the arbitrary.By tracing this irony,Paul de Man reveals a fatal discontinuity in the deep structure of Hegel's theory between the two verbal elements of trope and the performative.Not only does this discontinuity render Hegel incapable of dialectically uniting the phenomenal with the spiritual,as well as the secular with the sacred,and the human with the divine,but it also turns over a conservative view of politics based on theodicy derived from the said unity into a revolutionary critique of that very view.
