Peer Victimization and Perceived Physical Symptoms among Adolescents:A Moderated Mediation Model
Objective:This study aimed to investigate the relationship between peer victimization and adolescent per-ceived physical symptoms by examining the mediating effects of depression and anxiety and the moderating effect of psycho-logical resilience. Methods:The Chinese version of Delaware Bullying Victimization Scale-Student,The Center for Epide-miological Studies Depression Scale,Self-Rating Anxiety Scale,Cohen-Hoberman Inventory of Physical Symptoms, and Resilience Scale for Chinese Adolescents were administered to 737 junior high school students aged 12~14 years.Condi-tional process analysis was used to explore the association between variables.Results:(1)Peer victimization was positively associated with adolescent perceived physical symptoms.(2)Conditional process analysis indicated that depression and anxi-ety parallelly mediated the association between peer victimization and perceived physical symptoms.(3)Psychological resil-ience moderated the relationship between anxiety and perceived physical symptoms, such that the relation between anxiety on perceived physical symptoms was weaker for adolescents with high psychological resilience. Conclusion:These find-ings suggest that depression and anxiety might serve as the potential mechanism linking peer victimization with perceived physical symptoms among adolescents, and psychological resilience ameliorates the negative effect of anxiety on perceived physical symptoms.
