A Measurement Analysis of the Chinese Version Employee Fear of Missing Out Scale
Objective:To test the reliability and validity of employee fear of missing out scale in Chinese employees and its measurement invariance across gender.Methods:600 employees were tested with employee fear of missing out scale.Job insecurity scale, psychological detachment scale and feedback seeking scale were used as the criteria-related validity instruments.422 employees were test-retested after 5 weeks. Results:There were 10 items in the Chinese version employ-ee fear of missing out scale, including two factors of information fear of missing out and relationship fear of missing out, which were consistent with the structure of the original scale. The internal consistency reliabilities of Chinese version em-ployee fear of missing out scale and its two factors were 0.86,0.83 and 0.85 respectively, and the test-retest reliabilities were 0.86,0.85 and 0.81 respectively.Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the two-factor model of Chinese version em-ployee fear of missing out scale had a good fit with the data(x2/df=1.98,CFI=0.97,RFI=0.92,NFI=0.94,RMSEA=0.06,SRMR=0.04).The total score and the scores of two factors were significantly correlated with job insecurity(r=0.24~0.45),psychological detachment(r=0.23~0.44),and feedback seeking(r=-0.58~-0.28).Measurement invariance across gender was acceptable. Conclusion:Chinese version employee fear of missing out scale has a good reliability and validity in Chi-nese employees, and the measurement can be compared across employees of different genders, suggesting that this scale can be used as a suitable tool to research employees'fear of missing out.
