Impact of Intergenerational Relationship on Self-neglect in Rural Older Adults:A Moderated Mediation Model
Objective:To examine the relationship between intergenerational relationships and self-neglect in rural old-er adults and the role of depression and filial piety expectations in this.Methods:The intergenerational relationship scale,self-neglect scale,depression scale and filial piety expectations scale were used to investigate 693 older adults aged 60 and above,and the relationships among the four variables were analyzed.Results:Depression partially mediated the effect of in-tergenerational relationship on self-neglect in rural older adults;Filial piety expectations moderated the relationship be-tween intergenerational relationships and depression in rural older adults,and with the increase of filial piety expectations,the effect of intergenerational relationship on depression of rural adults was gradually weakened.Conclusion:Good inter-generational relationship can help to reduce the level of depression and self-neglect of the rural older adults.Depression will aggravate the self-neglect of the older adults,and the impact of intergenerational relationship on depression is moderat-ed by filial piety expectations.
