Time Course of Attention Bias to Bullying Scenes among Junior High School Bullies
Objective:Examining the time-course characteristics of attentional bias to bullying scenarios(related imag-es)among middle school bullies.Methods:33 bullied and 31 age and gender-matched non-bullied individuals were screened through the bullying subscale of the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire(Secondary school version)and interviews.At-tentional initial orienting and attentional control of bullying-scene-related pictures were examined in both groups of sub-jects using a dot-probe task and by varying the presentation time of the bullying-scene-related pictures(200ms or 500ms).Results:Bully victims had attentional bias and attentional disengagement difficulties with pictures of bullying scenes pre-sented for a longer period of time(500ms)compared to non-bullied victims, but this result did not occur with pictures relat-ed to bullying scenes presented for a shorter period of time(200ms).Conclusion:Attentional bias of middle school bullies to bullying scenarios(related images)may exist only in the attentional control stage.
