From Suicide Ideation to Suicide Attempt:Theoretical Models and Risk Factors for the Transition of Suicidal Action
Suicide ideation is a prerequisite for suicide attempts. However, most people who think about suicide do not take further action. In the past decade, researchers have proposed an ideation-to-action framework which focuses on the transition from suicide ideation to suicidal action.Within this framework, the theoretical models represented by Interperson-al Theory of Suicide,Integrated Motivational-Volitional Model of Suicidal Behaviour and Three-Step Theory of Suicide have promoted the reexploration of suicide risk factors.Among factors that distinguish suicide attempters from suicide ide-ators,research findings on suicide capability and its related factors are the most abundant. In addition, there are risk factors associated with suicide ideation, psychopathological factors, additional psychosocial factors,as well as neurocognitive and neural connectivity factors.Based on some unsolved issues in this field, directions for future research are proposed.
