Effects of Illness Acceptance on Mental Pain of Young Adults Living with HIV/AIDS:A Multivariate Chain Mediation Model
Objective:To explore the impact of illness acceptance on mental pain and the potential mediating role of psychological flexibility,tolerance for mental pain,and depression-anxiety-stress of young adults living with HIV/AIDS.Methods:689 youth HIV/AIDS patients were recruited to complete the acceptance of illness scale,comprehensive assess-ment of ACT process,tolerance for mental pain scale,depression-anxiety-stress scale-21,and the psychological and physi-cal pain visual analog scale.The PROCESS macro in SPSS was performed to analyze the mediating effects.Results:①There were significant correlations between illness acceptance,psychological flexibility,tolerance for mental pain,depres-sion-anxiety-stress,and mental pain in young HIV/AIDS patients.②The mediating effects of psychological flexibility,tol-erance for mental pain,and depression-anxiety-stress between illness acceptance and mental pain were significant,which were produced by four mediating paths(illness acceptance→depression-anxiety-stress→mental pain,illness acceptance →psychological flexibility→tolerance for mental pain→mental pain,illness acceptance→psychological flexibility→depres-sion-anxiety-stress→mental pain,illness acceptance→psychological flexibility→tolerance for mental pain→depression-anxiety-stress→mental pain),with a total intermediary effect size of 62.47%.Conclusion:Illness acceptance is an essen-tial influencing factor for mental pain in youth patients with HIV/AIDS,with both direct effects and indirect effects through the mediating effects of psychological flexibility,tolerance for mental pain,and depression-anxiety-stress.
