The Influence of Parental Criticism Related to Body Weight and Shape on Adolescent Eating Disorder Symptoms
Objective:The study aimed to examine the influence of parental criticism related to body weight and shape on adolescent eating disorder symptoms.Methods:Data of 363 girls and 267 boys were collected.Results:Parental criti-cism related to body weight and shape was significant correlated to the severity of adolescent eating disorder symptoms.Mothers'criticism could significantly predict eating disorder symptoms in male and female students after controlling for BMI,while fathers'criticism could only significantly predict eating disorder symptoms in boys.Conclusion:Parental criti-cism related to body weight and shape could predict the severity of eating disorder symptoms in adolescent girls and boys.However,mothers seemed to exert a larger influence than fathers.
