Does Trusting Parents Make Adolescents Happier?The Chain Mediating Roles of Self-Disclosure and Self-Concept Clarity
Objective:To investigate the effect of trusting parents on adolescents'subjective well-being and the mediat-ing roles of self-disclosure and self-concept clarity.Methods:A total of 500 high school students from Shijiazhuang,He-bei Province,participated in a longitudinal questionnaire.They completed the Trusting Parents Scale and the Self-disclo-sure Scale,and two months later completed the Self-Concept Clarity Scale and the General Well-Being Scale.Results:Ad-olescents'trust in parents was significantly positively correlated with self-disclosure,self-concept clarity,and subjective well-being;trust in parents could affect adolescents'subjective well-being either through the chain-mediating effects of self-disclosure and self-concept clarity or through a mediating effect of self-concept clarity alone.Conclusion:There was a significant positive effect of trusting parents,with the more adolescents trusted their parents,the higher their levels of self-disclosure and self-concept clarity,which in turn led to an improvement in their subjective well-being.
