Dutiful Son Under the Sticks? The Relationship between Harsh Parenting and Dual Filial Piety among Adolescents
Objective:To explore the relationship among harsh parenting, responsibility, implicit theories of personality, and dual filial piety. Methods:A sample of 562 middle school students was recruited to complete the questionnaires about harsh parenting, responsibility, implicit theories of personality, and dual filial piety.Results:①Harsh parenting not only directly and negatively predicted adolescents'reciprocal filial piety, but also indirectly predicted adolescents'reciprocal filial piety through the mediating role of responsibility;②Both the direct effect of harsh parenting on adolescents'recipro-cal filial piety and the mediating effect of responsibility were moderated by the implicit theories of personality, that is,the direct effect and indirect effect were more significant in adolescents holding entity theory of implicit personality.Conclu-sion:Responsibility is the bond that harsh parenting damages adolescents'reciprocal filial piety, while the incremental the-ory of implicit personality is the buffer that harsh parenting leads to a decrease in adolescents'responsibility and reciprocal filial piety.
