FoMO or JoMO?Latent Profiles and Influencing Factors of Missing-out Experience among Social Media Users
Objective:To explore the latent profiles of social media users'missing-out experience and its predictors and outcomes,so as to provide a basis for the effective identification and intervention of problematic social media users.Methods:Three hundred and two participants were surveyed by using Trait-State Fear of Missing Out Scale,Joy of Miss-ing Out Questionnaire,short version of Barratt Impulsive Scale,Upward Social Comparison Scale,Social Media Addiction Scale and Technical Conflict Scale.Latent profile analysis was used to explore the latent profiles,its internal relationship,and further examine their influencing factors and consequences.Results:Missing-out experience were divided into three latent types:trait fear of missing out group(18.5%),state fear of missing out group(63.2%),and joy of missing out group(18.3%).Impulsivity and upward social comparison predicted each latent type.Trait fear of missing out group and state fear of missing out group scored much higher on social media addiction,technical-personal conflict,technical-family conflict and technical-work conflict than joy of missing out group,and trait fear of missing out group also scored higher than those of state fear of missing out group significantly.Conclusion:State fear of missing out group is the dominant latent type of so-cial media users,and impulsivity and upward social comparison can predict the type of missing-out experience.Trait and state fear of missing our group show higher levels of social media addiction and technological conflicts.
