Effects of Parental Burnout on Children's Executive Function:The Chain-mediating Effect of Home Literacy Environment and Learning Quality
Objective:To investigate the mediating role of home literacy environment and learning quality in the influ-ence of parental burnout on children's executive function.Methods:294 mothers of children were investigated by Parental Burnout Assessment(PBA),Childhood Executive Functioning Inventory(CHEXI),Home Literacy Environment Question-naire and Preschool Learning Behavioral Scale(PLBS).Results:(1)There was a significant correlation(r=-0.504~0.392,P<0.05)between parental burnout, children's executive function, home literacy environment, and learning quality;(2)After controlling for gender and family socioeconomic status, parental burnout had a positive predictive effect on executive func-tion problems in children(β=0.249,P<0.001);In this predictive relationship, the home literacy environment and children's learning quality could not only play a mediating role individually but also play a chain mediating role through the home liter-acy environment → learning quality path, and the mediating effect accounted for 36.42%of the total effect. Conclusion:Parental burnout is a significant risk factor for the development of executive function in children, and its impact can be achieved by damaging the home literacy environment and hindering the development of children's learning quality.
