The Effect of Dance Movement Therapy Group on Body Appreciation and Body Esteem of College Students
Objective:This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Dance Movement Therapy(DMT)group on college students'body appreciation and body esteem.Methods:48 college students were recruited and randomly assigned to the experimental group(DMT group)and the control group.The experimental group students received continuous 6-week,2-hour dance group intervention once a week,while the control group did not receive any intervention.Use the Body Appreciation Scale-2 and Body-Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults for pre and post-tests.Results:After the 6-week intervention,the scores of body appreciation and body esteem in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the pretest,and the differences in the dimensions of appearance perception and weight satisfaction in body appreci-ation and body self-esteem were significantly higher than those in the control group.Body appreciation played a complete mediating role in the relationship between the DMT group and body esteem.Conclusion:The DMT group can improve col-lege students'body esteem by improving their body appreciation.
