The Relationship Between Peer Psychological Counseling Training and Helping Behavior Tendency Among College Students:Peer Psychological Counseling Ability as a Mediator
Objective:To explore the influence of peer psychological counseling training on college students'helping behavior tendency and the mediating role of peer psychological counseling ability.Methods:Fourteen peer counselors were recruited to participate in the peer counseling training and were randomly assigned to a theory training group and an ability training group,with 7 in each group.The theory training group only participated in the online theory courses per week,which were pre-recorded and learned by themselves;the ability training group,in addition to online theory courses per week,also participated in 15 offline peer psychological counseling ability training sessions,120 minutes per session.Af-ter the training,the two groups of peer counselors were tested with the Peer Psychological Counseling Ability Questionnaire and the Helping Behavior Tendency Questionnaire.Results:Peer psychological counseling training was significantly posi-tively correlated with peer psychological counseling ability,peer psychological counseling ability was significantly positive-ly correlated with helping behavior tendency,and peer psychological counseling training was significantly positively corre-lated with helping behavior tendency.Peer psychological counseling ability played a fully mediating role between peer psy-chological counseling training and helping behavior tendency.Conclusion:Peer counseling training can effectively im-prove peer counselors'peer psychological counseling ability and their helping behavior tendency.
