Objective:To explore the relationship among appearance-related social pressure, body image, dual self-consciousness and perceived stress, and reveal the mediating role of dual self-consciousness and perceived stress in the re-lationship.Methods:579 young women aged 18~35 years old were investigated using four scales:The socio-cultural atti-tudes towards appearance questionnaire-4(SATAQ-4),self-consciousness scale(SCS),the perceived stress scale(PSS-14)and body image states scale(BISS).Results:Body image was negatively correlated with appearance-related social pres-sure,perceived stress and BMI,and positively correlated with private self-consciousness;Appearance-related social pres-sure negatively predicted body image;Public self-consciousness and perceived stress had a significant chain mediating ef-fect in the relationship between appearance-related social pressure and body image, and perceived stress had a significant mediating effect in it.Conclusion:Appearance-related social pressure not only directly negatively predicts body image, but also negatively affects body image through the mediating effect of perceived stress and the chain mediating effect of pub-lic self-consciousness and perceived stress.
