The Relationship Between Classroom Bullying Norms and Bullying Follower Behavior:A Moderated Mediation Model
Objective:To explore the relationship between classroom bullying norms and bullying follower behavior among bystanders,as well as the mediating role of peer pressure and the moderating role of moral disengagement.Meth-ods:A survey was conducted among 2,186 upper elementary school students using the class bullying norms questionnaire, the peer pressure scale, the moral disengagement scale, and the bullying follower behavior scale.Results:(1)Classroom bullying norms were significantly positively correlated with bullying follower behavior.(2)Peer pressure mediated the rela-tionship between classroom bullying norms and bullying follower behavior.(3)Moral disengagement moderated both seg-ments of the mediating model.Specifically, students with higher levels of moral disengagement were more likely to internal-ize classroom bullying norms as peer pressure and were more inclined to act on peer pressure by engaging in bullying follow-er behavior. Conclusion:Peer pressure mediates the influence of classroom bullying norms on bullying follower behavior.and moral disengagement moderates this process.
