The Influence of Maladaptive Cognition of Internet Use on Depression Among College Students:The Chain Mediating Role of Online Risky Behavior and Cyber Victimization
Objective:To explore the relationship between maladaptive cognition of internet use and depression,and the mediating role of online risky behavior and cyber victimization in it.Methods:A sample of 1076 Chinese college stu-dents were investigated with the Questionnaire of Maladaptive Cognition of Internet Use,Adolescents Cyber Victimization Questionnaire,Online Risky Behavior Scale and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale.Results:(1)Maladap-tive cognition of internet use significantly positively predicted depression among college students;(2)The mediation analy-sis showed that both online risky behavior and cyber victimization partially mediated the relationship between maladaptive cognition of internet use and depression among college students;(3)Online risky behavior and cyber victimization played a chain mediating role between maladaptive cognition of internet use and depression.Conclusion:Maladaptive cognition of internet use can significantly positively predict depression through online risky behavior and cyber victimization among col-lege students.
