Active and Passive Social Media Use and Life Satisfaction among Older Adults:A Chain Mediation Model
Objective:To explore the influence and mechanism of different social media use(active use and passive use)on life satisfaction among older adults,and mediating effects of online social connectedness and social capital.Meth-ods:232 older adults were investigated to complete social media use style scale,online social connectedness scale,social capital scale and life satisfaction scale.Results:(1)Both active and passive use of social media were positively correlated with the life satisfaction among older adults;(2)Active social media use could indirectly affect life satisfaction among older adults through the mediation of online social connectedness and social capital.The mediation effect contained two paths,the separate mediation effect of online social connectedness,and the chain mediation effect of online social connectedness and social capital;(3)Passive social media use could affect life satisfaction among older adults through the mediation of so-cial capital.Conclusion:Active and passive social media use affects life satisfaction among older adults in different ways.The adaptive effect of passive social media use cannot be underestimated among older adults.And social media use should be valued in its own right for older adults.
