Female University Students'Gender Role Identity and Their Relevance to Self-efficacy and Leadership:Variable-centered and Person-centered Perspectives
Objective:To explore the female university students'gender role identity and their relevance to self-effica-cy and leadership through variable-centered and person-centered perspectives.Methods:1789 female university students were assessed with Bem sex role inventory,general self-efficacy scale and leadership scale.Results:(1)Variable-oriented analyses revealed that masculinity directly predicted female university students'leadership,and also indirectly predicted their leadership through self-efficacy.(2)There were four types of gender role identity of female university students,androg-yny,undifferentiation,feminization and masculinity(38.2%for androgyny,37.1%for undifferentiation,12.7%for feminiza-tion,12.0%for masculinity).(3)Person-centered analyses indicated that female university students'self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between androgyny,masculinity and leadership.Conclusion:There are four types of gender iden-tity of female university students,namely,androgyny,undifferentiation,feminization and masculinity.Self-efficacy plays a mediating role in the relationship between gender role identity and leadership of female university students.
