Effect of Family Function on Adolescent Problem Behavior:The Longitudinal Mediating Role of Empathy and Gratitude
Objective:To explore the influence of family function on adolescent problem behavior and the mediating role of empathy and gratitude.Methods:750 adolescents(468 boys)were followed up for 3 times in a 6-month interval over one year using the family assessment device, interpersonal reactivity index, gratitude questionnaire, and strengths and difficulties questionnaire. Results:Family function, empathy, gratitude were significantly negatively correlated with prob-lem behavior, family function was significantly positively correlated with empathy and gratitude, and empathy was signifi-cantly positively correlated with gratitude.T1 gratitude played a partial mediating role between T1 family function and T1 adolescent problem behavior, and T1 empathy-T1 gratitude played a chain mediating role.T2 empathy-T2 gratitude played a chain mediating role.Conclusion:(1)Family function can affect the development of problem behavior in adolescents.(2)Empathy and gratitude play an immediate and delayed chain mediating role in the predictive effect of family function on ad-olescent problem behavior.
