Revision of Social Emotional Learning Rating Form-Parent and Its Reliability and Validity Test
Objective:This study aims to revise the social emotional learning rating form-parent(SEL RF-P)and evalu-ate its reliability and validity among parents of children aged 3 to 12 years. Methods:A total of 762 parents of children aged 3 to 12 years were assessed using the Chinese version of SEL RF-P.The study included item analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and internal consistency analysis.Additionally,50 participants were retested after 4 weeks to determine test-retest reliability. The strengths and difficulties questionnaire(SDQ)was used to assess criterion validity.Re-sults:(1)The revised scale consists of 33 items, divided into 5 subscales:self-awareness,self-management,relationship skills, social awareness, and responsible decision making, aligning with the CASEL theoretical model.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated good model fit indices:x2/df=2.27,CFI=0.85,IFI=0.85,RMSEA=0.06,SRMR=0.06.(2)The scores of the revised scale and its five subscales showed significant positive correlations with the prosocial behavior subscale of the SDQ,with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.30 to 0.58.Conversely,the scores of the revised scale and its five sub-scales were significantly negatively correlated with the peer problems, hyperactivity, emotional symptoms, and conduct prob-lems subscales of the SDQ,with correlation coefficients ranging from-0.18 to-0.59.(3)The Cronbach's α for the revised scale and each subscale ranged from 0.63 to 0.91,and the test-retest reliability ranged from 0.56 to 0.75.Conclusion:The Chinese version of the social emotional learning rating form-parent(C-SEL RF-P)demonstrates good reliability and validi-ty among parents of children aged 3 to 12 years. It can be effectively used to assess the social-emotional abilities of pre-school and primary school children.
