The Applicability of the Chinese Version of the Selfishness Questionnaire Among College Students
Objective:This study aims to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the selfishness questionnaire among college students. Methods:A convenience sampling method was employed to administer the selfish-ness questionnaire, materialistic values scale, and benevolent and malevolent jealousy scale to 1381 college students from five universities in Guizhou province.Among them,197 participants completed a retest four weeks later. Results:The ex-ploratory structural equation modeling(ESEM)results indicated a good fit for the three-factor model(x2/df=2.67,CFI=0.93,TLI=0.91,SRMR=0.03,RMSEA=0.04).The dimensions and total score of the selfishness questionnaire showed significant positive correlations with materialistic values(r=0.33 to 0.40),benevolent jealousy(r=0.21 to 0.26),and malevolent jealousy(r=0.33 to 0.45).The internal consistency coefficients for the overall scale and its dimensions ranged from 0.62 to 0.86,the split-half reliability ranged from 0.61 to 0.85,and the test-retest reliability ranged from 0.73 to 0.85.Results from multi-group confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the configural invariance, weak invariance, strong invariance, and strict invariance models across genders were all acceptable. Conclusion:The Chinese version of the selfishness question-naire exhibits strong reliability and validity, along with gender invariance, making it a suitable tool for measuring selfish psychological traits among college students.
