Meta-analysis of the effects of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on microinflammatory responses in maintenance hemodialysis patients
AIM To investigate ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(ω-3 PUFAs)on the micro inflammatory response in maintenance hemodialysis patients.METHODS Databases such as PubMed,Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were retrieved for randomized controlled trials(RCTs)from January 2011 to December 2023.A Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.4 software.RESULTS A total of 9 RCTs were included. In term of reducing C-reactive protein in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis, there was a statistically significant difference between theω-3 PUFAs treatment group and the placebo control group[MD=-2.73,95%CI(-4.18,-1.29),Z=3.72,P=0.000 2].There was no statistically significant difference in reducing interleukin-6(IL-6)[MD=-13.97,95%CI(-21.58,-6.36),Z=3.60,P=0.22].The difference in tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)levels between 2 groups was statistically significant[MD=-9.37,95%CI(-14.46,-4.28),Z=3.61,P=0.000 3].CONCLUSION In patients on maintenance hemodialysis,ω-3 PUFAs can significantly improve the microinflammatory response.
