Investigation on the current situation of pharmacy outpatient clinics in Shanghai and analysis of factors affecting patient visits
AIM To investigate the current status of outpatient pharmacy services in Shanghai and analyze factors affecting the number of visits to pharmacist-managed clinics,providing a reference for the development and improvement of pharmacy outpatient services in medical institutions.METHODS Questionnaires were distributed to secondary and tertiary medical institutions in Shanghai using a questionnaire survey method.The operation and service volume of pharmacist-managed clinics were investigated,and influencing factors of the number of outpatients were analyzed.RESULTS A total of 101 medical institutions participated in the survey,of which 88(87.13%)opened pharmacist-managed clinics.Most pharmacist-managed clinics had independent consultation rooms,and there were differences in the allocation of pharmacist work stations,registration fees,and average service hours between second and third level hospitals(P<0.01).Regarding the construction of pharmaceutical outpatient system and service process,88.1%of pharmaceutical outpatient departments had established work management systems,while 63.8%of pharmaceutical outpatient departments provided written suggestions and materials for patients.Generally,performance evaluation had not yet been implemented.Univariate analysis showed that the influencing factors of the number of outpatient visits in pharmacist-managed clinics included the charging service of pharmacist-managed clinics,the prescription right of pharmacists,the provision of written suggestions for patients,the establishment of a patient referral process and specific standard operating procedures for outpatient services,and the inclusion of pharmacist-managed clinics into the medical quality management and control system of medical institutions.CONCLUSION The pharmacist-managed clinic of medical institutions in Shanghai has achieved significant development.In the future,it is still necessary to further strengthen discipline construction and talent cultivation,improve management systems,and strive to improve the service quality of pharmacist-managed clinics and promote the healthy development of pharmaceutical outpatient departments.
