Jieting Inn and Xinjing Inn between Guazhou and Shazhou and Its Geographic Significances during the Tang Dynasty
Traffic lines is the main factor in understanding regional development and spatial connec-tions.The traffic line between Shazhou(沙州)and Guazhou(瓜州)in the Tang Dynasty has been paid much attention in historical geography research. However, the inns'site was still inaccurate that might result in vague cognition of regional historical spatial structure.Rely on the point of view of the geographical envi-ronment and the inns'information in historical records, this paper argues that Goubei site(沟北古城)was Jieting inn(阶亭驿),and the No.3 Xishawo site(西沙窝三号古城)was Gancao inn(甘草驿).Between these two sites, there was a newly-unearthed site that confirmed the accuracy of this traffic line.Further-more,this paper discusses that the Xinjing inn(新井驿)located at No.2 Bazhou site(巴州二号古城).Above all,the accurate position of these inns could deepen the understanding in historical transport geogra-phy between Shazhou and Guazhou during the Han and Tang dynasties, and provide new perspectives for the research on historical environment changes in this region.
